JSON to CSV: a practical conversion guide
CSV is flat and tabular. JSON can be deeply nested. Good conversion starts by understanding that mismatch.
The ideal JSON shape
An array of objects with broadly consistent keys converts most naturally. Each object becomes a row and each key becomes a column.
[{"name":"Amina","score":91},{"name":"Ben","score":88}]What happens to nested objects?
ByteKitly flattens simple nested objects into dot-separated field names. Always inspect the result before importing it into another system because deeply nested arrays cannot always be represented naturally in a flat CSV row.
Three checks before exporting
- Confirm the source is an array of records rather than one large object.
- Check whether records use consistent keys and data types.
- Open the preview and verify quoted commas, line breaks, and nested values before using the file downstream.
